Take your students on a tour of one of the largest dry caves in North America where the temperature is seventy degree year-around. The Colossal Caves are located in the Rincon Mountains where the elevation is three thousand seven hundred feet. When you stand at the entrance to the caves you get a panoramic view of the Sonoran Desert. The Cave is not fully explored, but scientists estimate that there are at least thirty-nine miles of natural tunnels inside the cavern.
Additional itinerary options available at the park include:
Take the ranch day tour where everyone learns about the daily chores that take place on a typical Western ranch. Participants will also watch a branding demonstration, learn how to shoe a horse and take a horse drawn wagon ride.
Attend the La Posta Quemada Ranch Cookout where everyone will enjoy a feast while sitting around a bonfire. The students will also have a blast playing horseshoes and practicing their lariat roping!
Practice panning for gold! Remember the Western tradition where prospectors panned for gold. Your students get the opportunity to pan for gemstones, fossils, or arrowheads! Everyone can take home the treasures they uncover in a bag that comes along with a descriptive card identifying each discovery.
