Highlights

Discovery Green, a 12-acre park, is located in downtown Houston.  Solar panels are being used to heat water and to generate electricity on-site. Two arrays totaling 256 solar panels generate enough power for the park office.

The George Observatory, located about one hour’s drive south of Houston in the attractive Brazos Bend State Park, is a satellite facility of the Houston Museum of Natural Science.  The meteorite exhibit features fragments of several famous meteorites, including a piece of the Allende, Chihuahua, Mexico meteorite, which fell to the Earth on Feb. 8, 1969.

The Houston Zoo is home to more than 4,500 exotic animals representing more than 800 species.  A highlight of any visit is the Tropical Bird House - home to more than 100 of the Zoo’s 800 birds. The Tropical Bird House is a free-flight tropical rainforest aviary where you can see the lions, tigers, elephants and even the koalas while walking through this tropical landscape.
