Houston Zoo


The Houston Zoo is home to more than 4,500 exotic animals representing more than 800 species.  A highlight of any visit is the Tropical Bird House - home to more than 100 of the Zoo’s 800 birds. The Tropical Bird House is a free-flight tropical rainforest aviary where you can see the lions, tigers, elephants and even the koalas while walking through this tropical landscape. Educational activities are available throughout the year. Chose among the following topics:

Adventure Classes (9th-12th): Food Webs, Living on the Edge - Endangered Species,
Coral Reefs, and Taxonomy.

7th-8th Grade Classes: Food Webs, The Four Layers – Rainforests, Survival Gear (7th only), and Living on the Edge - Endangered Species

Students as Field Researchers:
Your student group can experience interactive activities involving actual field research and learn more about the native species in the Houston-Galveston area.  
Topics include: Seining for Marine Life, Identifying Coastal Birds, Identifying Native Plants, Insect Sweeping, and Water Quality Testing
